Your First Blog Entry
July 17th, 2009 by Owen JonesThe content of your blog is an important factor in attracting visitors and acquiring a target audience. Publishing your first article or post is a big milestone in your blogging career. Fortunately, there are several basic guidelines, which can make your articles more interesting to your readers, adored by the search engines and respected by the world of blogging.
Publishing Effective Content: Before you begin to write something for your blog, you should already know who your target audience is and what they want from a blog. If you think that these elements are irrelevant to your blog, because your blog is not at all business oriented, you must understand that if you want readers then these factors really are relevant.
Always remember that where there are readers there is always something interesting to read. The only reason that people read is because they want something. If you honestly want to achieve some kind of decent readership numbers, you really must strive to make your content interesting and actually relevant to what your readers want to read about.
Firstly, remember that interaction is the key to this. Moreover, your communication must be ‘real’. When you publish your article, you need to also let your true self shine through. Blogs are very personal by nature and how you communicate is the key to being personal. The fact that each blog is unique because each writer is unique is enough for you to not need to worry about blog entries being similar. Bare in mind that whatever topic you are blogging on, you must incorporate your personality into your article.
In order to establish a loyal target audience, it is important for them to trust you and relate to you. That does not have to mean that they need to know all your personal details, but you have to connect with your readership in an authentic way. After establishing your communication with your audience, the content must also be credible. The blog must have authenticity even though credibility takes long time to build.
The moment you start publishing your content, which is, of course, of high value and usefulness to your readers, you will also start building your authority on that subject. Then there will come a time, when your readers will ask you for your advice or seek your opinion. This is the time when you have achieved a sort of rapport and you must use this to further build your reputation as an expert and a blogger.
Blogger’s Block: Blogging is writing, but just uses a different medium. There are several ways to fight blogger’s block. Always remember that your blog exists to serve you and not to scare you. You did not try blogging because you have prolific writing skills or a degree in journalism. The fact is that you have something you want to say and you want others to hear. However, if you are stuck for an idea, there are several options that you can try when creating content for your blog.
You could try reading other peoples’ blogs for ideas. Visit those blogs that interest you and pick ideas and topics from those blogs that might be worth blogging about on your own blog but keep in mind the relevance of the topic to your readership. You could also use syndicated updates. You do this by subscribing to news services , which let you input a few keywords. Anything relevant to those keywords is then sent to you automatically on a daily basis. Yahoo and Google, amongst others, offer such services This is very useful for bloggers.
