Speech Recognition Software: Is It For You?
July 11th, 2009 by Christine PinkstonSpeech recognition software is becoming increasingly popular among college students and business minded people alike. The reason it is becoming so popular is because you are able to speak and the speech recognition software will type it out for you with great accuracy.
Speech recognition software was somewhat of a joke when it first came out because you could type much faster then you could fix the errors when using it.
Speech recognition programs have come a long way since then. Some of the better programs even have an accuracy rate of ninety nine percent and enables you to switch between typing and talking effortlessly.
One of the best things about speech recognition software is that you can cut your typing time down by 70 percent. This is great for college kids or if you have to type a lot. It will give you much more free time to do other things.
In order to effectively use your speech recognition software you are going to need to train it by reading passages that are set up in the program. This is important because everybody speaks and pronounces their words different.
The more training you do the more accurate it will be when you start using it. You have to do a minimal of one training session. If that is all you choose to do the speech recognition software will make more mistakes at first but the more use it the more accurate it will become.
Another aspect that can affect the accuracy of the software is the noise level around you. Some background noise won’t affect the speech recognition software to much but if someone comes up to you talking, like a child, then more times then not what they are saying is going to be typed.
If you work in an office or somewhere reasonably quite then speech recognition software can save you a lot of time but if you work out of your house and your kids are home all day then typing might be the better option for you.
