7 Steps to Building Your Own Publishing Empire!
July 9th, 2009 by Karen MoehrIt’s easier than ever the make yourself a mini-empire with writing and publishing!
1. Write a book. This is the ole granddaddy of the publishing world. Become a published author or self-publish your own book. It’s easier than ever these days so if you have a solid concept and can commit to do the work (it takes lots of work for either venue), you can become a published author before the year ends!
2. Start a blog. This is a well-known idea, but to use it best, you must 1.) post often, 2.) have a theme. Like writing a book, you should have a central concept, but with a blog you can be more creative and even more conversational.
Publish it on a regular basis to get consistent readers. If you have good content and update it often, you can get a lot of good exposure with it.
3. Website. It used to be websites were just tools to promote your platform or sell a product. But well-designed and useful websites are updated often and have content that is as useful as a blog. Keep your site fresh and interesting and it will be a useful item to help your business grow.
4. Ebooks. You’ve surely run into them all over the web. Why? Because ebooks work! They are terrific ventures to use to test the interest before you decide to publish a print book. You can see if it sells on your website before you delve into publishing a book.
5. Send out an ezine. An ezine is an electronic newsletter that is emailed out to people. You can write and send an ezine quickly using one of the great program out there now (do a search to find one that suits you). Ezines should have a bit of a personal touch but be focused around your cental idea or platform. For instance, if you write an ezine about real estate, you can includes tidbits about you travelling or visiting unique properties around the world.
6. Mini Books. Mini books are booklets. They are cheaper and easier to put together than a book or ebook. Ebooks may sell for $40.00, while a booklet may sell for just $5 or $6. It can be prepared on your word processor and saved as a .pdf for immediate download. Sell it in your blog and ezine. Booklets can be mini samples of books and ebooks to give readers an idea of your full-length products.
7. Develop your social networking. Get a Facebook page. Get on Twitter and tweet. Get on LinkedIn. There are numerous social networking sites out there and the key isn’t to be involved in everything. That (in my opinion) just takes away from your key focus and scatters your energy. Pick two or three that you feel work for you and stay current on each. Promote all your offerings (website, books, ebooks, booklets, blogs, ezines, etc.) on your social networking sites.
Do a little of each to have a well-rounded publishing empire to call your own!
