Prompts And Starters
As a writer you may often find yourself staring at a blank piece of paper or computer screen wanting to start your writing but not being able get words out. Thankfully though, if you’re lucky, when the muse disappears and writer’s block sets in, sometimes all it takes to kickstart your writing again is a good writing prompt or story starter.
On this page I’ll continually add different things that I hope will help you break through your blocks and come up with a new idea etc.
If you’d like to add your own please feel free to leave a comment. If any of these prompts or starters are useful to you we’d love to hear about it.
Writing Prompts:
Grab your favourite CD and use the first five song titles you see as a basis for your story or chapter headings.
Use an umbrella, wig and computer disk in a story
Take your favourite television show and write a scene differently or give it an entirely new slant. Writing fan fiction can be a great way to get your creative juices flowing. If you’d like to know more: Fan Fiction
If your favourite pet was human how would they act and what type of person would they be?
Story Starters:
Leaning against the window my gaze wandered over the horizon.
Eyes the colour of granite stared back at me
“It’s now or never,” she screamed.
“Gather around children, I have a strange story to tell.”
