A History of Formentera Island

January 31st, 2010 by Richard Clark

Back at the turn of the century the Greek writer Strabo referred to Formentera as the land of reptiles, or Ophiusa. 2,000 years later and there are still plenty of lizards around! But even before Strabo’s days there were people living on Formentera, and there are site on the island suggesting that inhabitants date back 4,000 years. The Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans have all seen the attractions of Formentera.

Romans farmed Formentera for wheat and figs, and this is reflected in the fact that they named it the island of wheat. Es Calo was a bustling port in Roman times, and carefully watched over by the fort of Castell Roma de Can Blai which is on a hill over Es Calo.

Formentera has never been an easy place to occupy, as the Byzantines, Vandals, Arabs, and Normans who followed the Romans all discovered. When the Catalans finally stamped their authority in 1235 they did so by exterminating the local Muslims, and dividing the island into four administrations, but after years of sickness and pirate attacks they decided to leave the island in the fourteenth century.

By 1697 the Spaniards were ready to have another crack at occupying Formentera, and this time around they were successful. They managed to get some defense towers built to keep out the pirates, and by 1889 Formentera was an independent municipality.

Until the twentieth century Formentera was sustained by farming of dry fruit trees and the manufacture of salt, but these days it is the tourism sector that makes the biggest contribution to the island. That is thanks to the hippies that came in the 1960s, from whom the word spread. Thanks to the hippies we have a great tourist destination to enjoy – thanks Bob Dylan!

From when you get to at Lasabina formentera port you are enchanted by a great island. For further information visit: http://www.squidoo.com/Sabina-Formentera

Increase Revenue By Employing An Article Marketing And Article Submission Service

January 31st, 2010 by Tamara Gland

For the many authors who do not yet know how to make article marketing work for their business, they are actually wasting all their time and efforts. A total waste. Why? Because even though you are producing quality articles, they are not really getting near enough your targeted marketplace. For those who have been taught about copywriting outside the online world, they would know that the title or headline is one thing that will determine if the content will be successful or not.

In books, for example, the first thing that people see is the title. And people, being critical, have the tendency to judge the whole book just from the title. They will even get to the point where the headline alone will make them buy or not buy that book. This is the same thing with online print ads.

But it is a different case with article marketing. In article marketing, your articles are targeted to audiences that have an interest in them. This is the basic idea behind distributing one online. You have to make sure that your article marketing will be seen consumers and potential consumers alike.

One of the most common misconceptions about articles online is that people will just read them at random just like they do with books or any printed materials they see offline. So with article marketing, you are assuming that people will just randomly check out your article once they see it posted.

This is wrong. Visitors online do not just chance upon anything on the Internet. They are there in the first place to look for or they need something. When looking for the things they need, they do not just get into the first website they see.

Most of them will probably use the search engines to achieve what they are seeing for. Chances are, they will choose one of the more favourite search engines and type in the keywords related to the topic they need there. Then the search engines will display the results found.Your goal now in article marketing is for your articles to be prominent in the search engines.

The success of your article will be based on the first 3-4 words of your title. It will determine how much traffic your article will get back to your website. This can only be attained when you have created keyword-rich titles that will match the most common keywords related to your content.

To know what are the rich keywords and the right ones that you should use for your articles, it would be best to use a keyword research tool. Some of this software is free but some are not. Try to look for the sites that are offering this software. It will prove to be a valuable tool needed for successful article marketing.

It is vital that you learn and understand how to go about keyword research whether or not you are using a web-based research tool or not. When choosing a newspaper headline or title for your article, try not to include rubbish characters. These are quotes, asterisks or anything that search engines will find difficult to understand. You would not want them to discard your articles totally just because they cannot make any sense out of your title.

Also, do not get into some of the search engine spam technique of giving out keyword-rich titles that are in no way related to your articles. You will just get into big trouble once the search engines have filtered out people doing these things.

If you want to get the most out of your article marketing scheme, you must master keyword research so that you can make keyword rich and clever article titles or headlines. Your pay off will be huge amounts of traffic to your articles and website thanks to the search engines who love reading titles.

There is really no great secret to having a successful marketing scheme. Once you know some of the key factors that are needed to make it work, there will be no stopping you from getting the customers you want and the search engine position you sought.

Research the best ways to use article marketing to get traffic to your page. With the article submission that will work the best for your traffic. Go online and get the information you need now! Visit the Uber Article Directory to get a totally unique version of this article for reprint.

Can I Make Real Money As A Web Content Producer?

January 31st, 2010 by Inel Adrian

You know that you like to write, but you want to know if being a web content producer is something that you can actually pay your bills with. The first part is covered, you enjoy creating content. Many people can write but very few enjoy it. If this is a new career path for you, you should enjoy what it is that you do for a living.

It helps if a person has an interest in writing and that they have some talent in the arts. Projects will have to done in a timely manner and in the manner that a client dictates. Originality is important. There is a lot of content out on the internet and it will not help your career to not be able to come up with content that is entirely your own creation.

Sometimes you will come across a very difficult client. You have to able to remain professional. That does not mean that you have to give your work away for free but you do need to able to take criticism about something that you created. Use the criticism to create a better product and never take it personally.

Writing is an internal creation. Life will happen. This means that even when you are having a bad day or several bad days you will still have a job to do. It may be horrible that a loved one has died but your clients still need the work that was promised to them.

Always check and then recheck your work. Spelling and grammatical error are just sloppy and not very professional. Your work is the only thing that a potential client will see.

Keep building your portfolio. Save writing samples and get references. Find out if there is a certain niche that you may feel more comfortable in. When we are passionate about a topic, it is easier to write about. These are just some of the things to consider if you want to be a web content producer.

After an extensive remodel taking into consideration comments made by their users the entire site has been redesigned to make it more attractive, easier to use and more informative. The new site is set to launch officially on February 1st but is accessible now if you don’t mind a little construction going on.

In a recent conversation Mrs. Michele Walls, Founder, Senior Partner and CEO of West Virginia Writing Services spoke on the new site as well as other changes that are in the works at the Racine, West Virginia based firm, “This new site is just one piece of a much larger advancement that we are undertaking in the company, its a very exciting time to be working here. We have new clients, new partners and new contracts coming in that will take us to new heights that honestly 5 years ago I never would have imagined. All I can say is keep an eye out, this new site is just the beginning of a long term plan to bring about a whole new WVWS during 2010.”

Although Mrs. Walls would not comment on the other changes that she alluded too, talk among the staff indicates the possibility that a company move is upcoming, an influx of some new talent both in the creative divisions as well as the executive offices and an expansion of services offered. There is also an excitement in the air about some major deals that are in the works which will not only increase the companies strength but also diversify its industry reach.

Mrs. Walls was all to happy to talk about the new site however pointing out that although on the surface it may appear to not have changed much, the truth is its much faster, easier to use and more secure for the customers placing orders. There is a new portfolio also which showcases some of the best examples of the companies work. These aren’t some puff pieces that were specifically made for the site like you might find on other sites, but copies of real work done for real paying clients. “I am so proud of what is going on here right now. I have the best staff in the world, so creative and bright and vibrant, they love their jobs and it shows in everything that they do, this site is a great example of that.” indeed the most interesting aspect of the new site is the fact that it shows that WVWS is more than just words in their business, the new site was actually built from the ground up internally by the same staff that does the projects that the company has become famous for.

The new site shares the same address as its retired predecessor, visitors are invited to stop by and have a look around and while they are there discover all the advantages that can be had by putting a content generation company to work for you.

Lawyer Marketing 101: 4 Simple Ideas to Improve Your Law Firm’s Website Copy

January 31st, 2010 by Chris Thompson

Writing copy for a law firm’s website is a challenging task. The material is heavy and difficult to convey concisely and cleanly. The copy on a legal website needs to get across the most important aspects of the legal issues and hold the reader’s attention at the same time. This is not an easy thing to do.

You need to recognize that writing copy for the internet is different than writing for other forms of media.

To be successful with your lawyer marketing efforts, you need to gain an understanding of how to write good web copy.

I am going to discuss how to write better web copy. Even though writing good web copy for search engine optimization purposes is important, I want to tackle this issue from the standpoint of usability and reader engagement.

Here are a few pointers to get you started off the right foot:

1. Bullet points – Web users are drawn to bullet points. Default to creating lists and bullet points for your web copy when appropriate.

2. Write as if you were having a dialogue – The power of the internet is the high level of engagement it provides. People frequent blogs and sites so that they can interact with the content. The best way to achieve this engagement is to write like you are having a conversation. Stay professional but write with your unique voice.

3. Stay away from legalese or lawyer speak – Your average website visitor will have no idea what you are talking about. Since it is so easy to click over to another site, take the time to write in a way that your average individual can understand.

4. Using photos, illustrations, videos, graphs, etc. will increase engagement – People are naturally drawn to these images on a web page. If you make them interesting and relevant you will increase the likelihood that your web copy gets read as well.

Take some time to look over the existing copy on your website. Are you following the guidelines set forth above? If not, making a few changes will go a long way towards improving your website copy.

From helping your law firm attorney internet marketing efforts efforts, to getting new clients or building a new business connection, we measure, test, and optimize the entire process. We know you’re busy. Contribute as much or as little time to the attorney internet marketing process as you like.

Fiction Writing Tips On Editing A Rough Draft Manuscript For Revisions

January 30th, 2010 by Patty Schuyler

Coming to the end of a rough draft is an exhilarating process. Knowing that you can do it, that you have done it, that you have created a complete novel is something that does not get old, even after completing many novels. No matter how good you get at the writing process, every rough draft will need to be edited. If you have mastered the basics such as good grammar, formatting and punctuation, some of the editing steps will go faster than the others.

The editing process can be compared to cleaving, cutting and polishing a diamond. Diamonds take a long time to form, and when they are mined from the earth, they are rough but still beautiful. Each stage in the process is important and essential to getting the most potential out of the tough gem.

Cleaving is the part of editing that can be started right after you have typed the end. This is where you step back and take a look at the large picture. Macro editing. Do you feel satisfied with your ending at that very moment? Do you have scenes that you will need to insert to make more sense out of your ending? Do you have a character that you need to develop more or one that you need to get rid of all together?

I recommend not actually making any of those changes right away. The diamond cleaver turns the rough gem in his hand and makes observations, sets the diamond in a type of cement and walks away from it, letting it cool. I suggest writing your observations and to do list down in notes, backup your draft one final time and then put it away for a minimum of thirty days.

During that waiting period, relax and celebrate, but also start working on a new project. Work on rough notes and an outline for a new book or if you do not have an idea for a new story, find writing prompts and exercises that will challenge you and possibly give you some ideas. A week before you start editing, spend some time reading advice from others on the editing process.

Once the waiting period is over, read your manuscript from front to back. You will have a fresh perspective on it, and you will be able to work on those notes that you made earlier with confidence and precision. Tweak your ending, change your beginning, remove those characters or scenes that don’t advance the plot and add those small foreshadowing details that bring depth to the story and give more meaning to the ending. When you are done, put the manuscript away again. For a day, a week or longer if you need to and come back to it, ready to do the micro editing.

Writer Patty has spent a lot of time researching and practicing the art of good fiction writing. The author has put together a website to gather all her fiction writing tips together to share with aspiring fiction writers. You’ll find great fiction writing tips here.
