Do You Honestly Want A Profitable Public Speaking Business?

October 31st, 2009 by Scott A. Dennison

When you look back on this year, will you say that your public speaking business was undergoing a boom or a bust? If you are like so many other speakers, this has been a trying year; one where the recession really took a bite out of the meetings marketplace and made speaking engagements difficult to find.

A study of businesses started in recessions shows that many of them go on to have unusual levels of success in years when the economy is growing well. The good news is that with a few minor changes to your business model and your public speaking business can be positioned for greatness in years to come.

The first one is that you’ll want to recognize that there are audiences for your unique message that exist all over the earth. And with the power of the Internet, you can reach them, build relationships with them and in time sell them on your books, audios, videos, seminars, etc. How exciting is that?

Second is you should realize that “content is king” and that from this day forward you should never give a talk without recording it. You never know when the opportunity to monetize that recording will come your way. If you did not record it then those who were in attendance who wanted to hear it again or share you with friends are out of luck. You may even want to offer the recording to audience members in exchange for their email address.

A third thing to consider is that when you are attracting audiences who will most likely never hear you speak in person that you have a powerful Internet presence. Your website must be alive with fresh content. This means that you’ll want to be using online video, offer your thoughts and ideas through a blog and become good at using social media marketing to find interested prospects for your unique message.

In summary, even though there are less speaking engagements than ever, there are massive opportunities to find, attract and build relationships with consumers of your unique message all over the world. When you learn to properly market your public speaking business online, you can earn more money, travel less and sleep in your own bed more often.

5 Tips for the Best Man Wedding Toast

October 31st, 2009 by Keith Johnson

If you are thinking about writing a best man wedding toast, you should look closely to these 5 golden tips that I give you in this article. These tips comes from my personal experience with writing my own best man wedding speech, and I hope it will help you writing yours.

Tip 1: Starting your toast

This is so important for your wedding toast; begin by introducing yourself. Make sure you tell everybody shortly who you are, and how you are related to the groom. Start by telling this, because truth be told; if you are at a big wedding, a lot of people might not know you, and they don’t know how you are related to the groom. This is a good way to start.

Tip 2: Use humor in your toast

Humor is a killer tip for your wedding speech. This way you will capture the audience, and your speech will not just be a boring rambling. Put in some funny anecdotes or stories about you and the groom, but take care; don’t embarrass or humiliate anyone. Many wedding toasts end up being mood killers, because the speaker embarrasses the groom or the family. Keep the jokes in a sober tone.

Tip 3: Compliment the bride

Make sure that you have compliments enough for the bride in your speech. Don’t be too “flirty”, hit on the bride or anything; but make sure to state how lucky she is.

Tip 4: Act on behalf of the groom

This day is all about the newly-weds; as a best man you should remember that you are speaking on behalf of the groom. The couple will be very busy all night, so the guests will also judge the groom on your behavior. Keep your speech clean, sober and funny.

Tip 5: Tell a good story

If you really want a great best man wedding toast, you have to tell a good story. It can be everything from at story about you and the groom, the beginning of the newly-weds relationship or just some funny story about the bridegroom. Remember that if people can relate to the story, it will move them. Make them laugh, but at the same time keep it clean and don’t offend anyone.

Does Ocracoke Make A Great Destination for Family Beach Vacations?

October 31st, 2009 by Charles Vaughn

In the 1960’s there was a television hit called “The Andy Griffith Show”. The show centered around a small town sheriff and his family and friends in the fictional town of “Mayberry”. It hastened back to a simpler time, when life was slower, people more caring, and everyone knew your name. While “Mayberry” is totally fictional, there is a place that will certainly remind you of it. Where is that place? Ocracoke Beach, which is located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It’s a great place for family beach vacations. In this article we will be focusing on why we think Ocracoke is one of the “Top Beaches of the World”, and a “must see”. We warn you though…this place will move you in ways you will not expect.

Why does Ocracoke maintain this ode to “Days Gone By” when the rest of North Carolina has marched on? One reason could be the simple fact that it’s much harder to get to Ocracoke. There is no direct bridge, road, or tunnel. If you don’t have your own private boat or plane, the only way to get there is to either swim (we’re kidding…) or take one of the public ferries that run to the island and back on a daily basis.

Even if you hate shopping on the mainland, we think you will like it in Ocracoke. The shops are all small and quaint, and just browsing in them will bring back thoughts of “Mayberry”. If you need to buy groceries there are only two main variety stores. They do have a post office to mail letters and postcards back to the mainland. One shop is dedicated to “just kites”, a wonderful way to pass time on the island. The tree-lined roadway that covers the shops in the main shopping area is another feature that we just love.

Ocracoke has a historic lighthouse that was built by Noah Porter (a builder from Massachusetts) in 1832. It’s known as the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in North Carolina, as well as the second oldest in the US. It is 75 feet (23 m) tall, and it’s diameter varies from 25 feet (8 m) at the base to 12 feet (3.7 m) at the top. The light from this lighthouse can be seen 14 miles out into the Atlantic. A United States National Park Ranger is on duty during the summer months. When a ranger is on duty you can enter the base of the lighthouse…but no climbing is permitted.

As we conclude our article we would like to mention what we think of Ocracoke. We love it! That about wraps it up in a nutshell. It has a feel about it that is hard to describe. It hastens back to a time when life was simpler, and problems were fewer. You will just have to go there and experience it for yourself. Make sure you come back in one piece…you might just leave your heart there… :)

Remove Ripoff report Posts?

October 31st, 2009 by James Scott

Countless small owners have been badgered with a competitor or difficult to please client that go out of their way to destroy the reputation of their business. Unregulated sites like ripoffreport.com are a powerful billboard for people to post absolutely anything they want about anyone for any reason, anytime, for any purpose.

What can you do when you see sales plummet or customers are less trusting because they came across these negative posts online. All your hard work in building a business and brand name just goes right out the window. How do you defend yourself from these barbaric image attacks? Sadly, these websites won’t remove the link. Anyone that tells you they can is lying to you. So what do you do when someone posts an image A-bomb on your company.

You fight fire with fire and here is how you do it. The first thing you need to know is that when a post makes it to the first page of a search engine it is because it is on a high pr site and because of it’s massive traffic, the search engines look at this as a credible resource for information. So what you need to do is take advantage of other high pr sites that lend the same credibility to the search engines and you blast your positive message out to these sites. The specific tactics you should use are: video hosting sites, article submission sites, press release sites, social and news book marking sites and even photo upload sites. You should find as many of each of these sites as possible.

OK, after you have pinpointed these web properties you want to research your industry specific keywords and when you are uploading to these sites you want to tag your uploads with as many of these niche keywords as possible. Next you want to go on an all out, no holds barred name branding spree. Use the same sites above and re-upload the same content (change it around a little so it looks unique to the search engines) but this time tag the uploads with every variation of your company name and even include the names of your executive staff that have been effected by this negative post.

Listen, simply follow the instructions above, you’ll find that you push the negative post so far down in the search engine rankings that it hardly holds any relevant and even if the client does find this post with an exhaustive search, they will be so inundated with the positive branding you’ve just done, the negative post will hardly matter. Your online reputation is crucial, protect it any way you can.

What Is French Life Famous For?

October 31st, 2009 by Hazel Wig

The British often imagine they understand France and the French. There’s a long history of big and small animosities between the two nations and France is physically the closest country to us, so of course we know all about French life. But even with all the stereotypically detracting remarks you hear about the French, their country remains the most visited in the world. And the British continue to move there to live out their French dream.

So, what is French life famous (or infamous) for?

Few dispute the fact that French restaurants are excellent. French cuisine is endlessly copied throughout the world, and the French language is often used for menus and cooking terms. Although we often associate the French with “haute cuisine”, the day to day home cooking and standard cheap restaurant lunches are another cause for pride. Choice of ingredients and cooking methods interest the French public; choosing a restaurant or a dish in a restaurant can be a matter for heated argument. Food is important and it’s this importance that will keep French cuisine at its high standard.

It seems that they are right to place this emphasis on proper meals rather than eating on the move and snacking. The French are a little more healthy and less overweight than many other populations. Visitors can be confident that most set-price menus will be great value for money.

Although France is rightly proud of its traditional bread, I think that you need to be weaned onto and brought up with the baguette if you’re to find it essential twice a day. When I arrived to live in France many years ago, I soon become fed up with the relentless baguette diet and was forced by my teenaged children to learn to make “proper wholemeal loaves”. Today, there’s a huge variety of breads available in every boulangerie (and regional variations make for pleasant discoveries) and I’ve happily given up baking!

Cheese is a natural accompaniment to that bread, and apart from the world famous French cheeses like Brie, Roquefort and Camembert, there are over four hundred others to choose from. These encompass all sorts of milks and processes to produce something for all tastes.

The most famous French produce is probably wine. We tend to think that we need some knowledge (and some money!) in order to appreciate French wine. It’s true that many French people do tend to know quite a lot about the topic and they do buy for their own personal cellar. However, many just buy from the local supermarket and don’t spend a great deal, but still take the subject seriously.

Many of us believe that France is made up of protesting farmers, fishermen and transport workers. This is because world television tends to concentrate on the negative aspects of news rather than on a country’s more positive events. It might be more realistic to show the fantastic products.

Apart from the fantastic wining and dining, the bolshie agriculture sector and the “difficult” administration, what more do we know of the French life?

The Arts are prominent in French life. Theatre, painting, sculpture, design and many other art forms all have a place in towns and villages all over the country. Literature and cinema are particularly well served and many tiny villages will have their own libraries and film showings, which are managed by teams of local volunteers. The Cannes Festival is the world famous symbol of the French involvement with film.

The French are also famous for their sophistication and excellent dress and fashion sense.

Quite a contradictory set of icons for this nation! But one thing is sure, people from all over the world keep returning to visit and to benefit from many aspects of the French life. Could the complaints arise from envy?

French Life and the pleasure of Life in France have been featured in magazine articles the world over. Tips on Writing a Feature Article

October 31st, 2009 by Winson Yeung

There are many different ways to write an article, but writing a feature article requires some additional knowledge and skills. Having writing talent and the ability to write an article does not mean you will have success writing a feature article. You need to have the correct knowledge and experience to be successful to write a feature article. This article will detail some of the more important information needed to be successful writing a feature article.

No matter what field or subject you are writing about that subject should be very specific. Articles that are specific are the ones that are chosen as a feature article. Certain publications will accept articles on general subjects but you will find that even those more general articles have a specific point or topic being investigated. Gen4erally the publications dealing with professions such as medical journals require articles written on very specific topics.

Before you even begin to write your article you need to understand what the theme is and what demographic you are writing for. The audience will dictate any specific stylization you may need to use. Niche publications and other professional journals will have a very specific audience but they do not tend to pay as much as them ore general publications.

Now that you have your topic and audience you need to start doing some research. You should read the articles in the journal you are writing for and see what style of writing the journal tends to accept. For example if you are writing an article on alternative energy then you need to be completely up to date on all alternative energy news and information.

The title can be the first or last thing you write, but it is the most important part of your article. An engaging and gripping title will peak the readers interest and make them want to read your article. The title needs to be clear and informative without giving away your opinion. The title is the first thing that the reader will see and many judge an article based on its title. You should play around with a few different titles before choosing the title for your feature article.

Your writing style will also play a large part in the ability to produce a feature article. Dry and boring styles do not do well for feature articles whereas an engaging style is a lot of fun to read. Even if you do not have an engaging writing style you can still write a feature article by knowing the subject backwards and forwards, having a strong opinion and discuss a topic that is slightly controversial.

A feature article will include information from many sources. It is important to have factual information as well as different opinions. You can include a friend’s opinion and contrast that with an expert’s opinion or use a celebrity interview. Including current events and politic action on the topic can also be useful. You will easily craft an engaging article by using different types of information.

You should see about letting your personality come through or develop your own writing personality. To keep your articles fresh you should continue to read and expose yourself to the written word and different styles as much as possible. You should always keep learning and finding ways to improve your writing skills. You can easily do this by joining a forum and discussions with other writers and intellectuals.

5 Tips for Your Maid of Honor Speech

October 30th, 2009 by Karen Smith

All right, let’s get right into it with this article. I have gathered 5 golden tips for you to use to write your first bridesmaid wedding speech and this will hopefully help you make that unforgettable maid of honor toast, that everyone will talk about and remember for many years. This will show the bride that she was right in picking you as maid of honor or bridesmaid.

Tip 1: The beginning

The beginning of your toast is crucial; you have to make a good impact on people, and when you start on your bridesmaid wedding speech, they have to immediately know who you are. Therefore it’s a very good idea to begin with introducing yourself, and how you know the bride and the groom. Make sure there is no doubt about who you are, before you start speaking about the bride.

Tip 2: Be careful with humor

Humor is a killer in every bridesmaid wedding speech; but be careful. It would be very bad to over-do this part of you speech, as you can easily embarrass or humiliate the bride, groom or maybe some guests. Also keep it sober for the kids, grandparents and other guests.

Tip 3: Be nice to the groom

When the best man makes his toast, he will usually take some time off to compliment the bride. Make sure you do the same thing, to show that the bride have found a great husband, and to show that you really support the bride in her marriage.

Tip 4: Its not your day, but the bride’s

Now the most important job for you, as a bridesmaid, is to act and speak on behalf of the bride. If there are many guests at the wedding, they will not see the bride all the time, but they will see a lot of the bridesmaids, and that is why you need to act and speak on behalf of the bride. Make sure everybody knows how happy she is on her big wedding day.

Tip 5: Be a story-teller

This is truly a killer-tip; be nostalgic in your speech. This is what moves people, and if you can find a funny childhood story, or some funny and cozy story from the beginning of the relationship between the newly-weds, this will be a big hit in your speech.
