Developing Powerful Logos for an E-Learning Courseware

August 31st, 2009 by Trevor Howard

Are you preparing your learning content ready for migration to a learning management system? If so, you’re probably making an overwhelming number of choices. Beyond all those choices about the content itself–what to include and how to do so–there are decisions regarding navigational, format, and others. And beyond those basic ones there are the finer choices related to design and style. Part of this more subtle element is the brilliant design of your e-learning course logo.

Is a courseware logo really important, you might wonder? True, a logo is somewhat like a book cover; ultimately, it doesn’t mean too much. And of course, in order to prosper in a competitive e-learning market, your courseware absolutely must be robust and well developed, interactive, and based on your own expertise and experience. On the other hand, let’s face it: phrases like “Don’t judge a book by its cover” don’t exist for no reason. The truth is that we do make fast, visually-cued judgments all the time. These little judgments aid tremendously in our decision-making process. This goes for everything from what shampoo or cereal to buy to more critical decisions like a romantic partner, or, well, education. A unique and visually appealing logo may help someone decide between your courseware and another.

So what types of logos work the best? Keep in mind this rule: your logo acts as the visual illustration that represents your e-learning course. Essentially, it will embody your learning content. But it will also, after some time, facilitate viewer recognition of (and trust in) your product.

Logos can be a simple name or logotype or an ideograms (visual including icons, signs and emblems). Ideograms are often easily recognizable alone. For example, the McDonald’s arc is easily identifiable without the necessity to see the word “McDonald’s.”

Even though you could hire a graphic designer to design your e-learning course logo, why not add a more personal touch and design your very own? After all, it’s your learning system based on your professional expertise. And anyway, it’s not difficult to design a logo. And sometimes it can be fun.

So, how do you come up with a great logo? It won’t come to you in your sleep. You have to make your hand do some work. Tirelessly brainstorm your ideas and sketch them out by hand, using up lots of paper. This is the strategy big design companies use. Their graphic designers sketch everything out by hand before even going near a computer. Sketching by hand is the easiest and quickest way to imagine and design your courseware logo.

Now that you have a simple but unique logo in front of you, it’s time to test it out. Be adventurous. Experiment with your design, adding new colors, mixing up shades and tones, and adding and subtracting images. Test your logo in various situations, inserting text in different positions to find out where it looks best. Test different font sizes and styles.

No matter how you do it, strive to design an e-learning logo whose structure and uniqueness best suits your learning management system course.

What Every Internet Marketer Needs To Know About Copywriting

August 31st, 2009 by Suzie Ashmore

In order to build a good and influential website of content it is important to have the influence of copy writing. Copy writing is a type of writing that is used to help influence the reader into a particular behavior. In many cases this behavior just happens to be making a purchase, but it can be used for other actions as well. Sometimes copy writing is also used to make an impact on society, decisions and other information. Having this type of content can greatly help visitors follow along with the businesses mission and plans.

The goal of copy written material is to have individuals follow a certain path. In most cases this information is based on an opinion or theory that someone else is expressing. In many cases there is a strong opinion or call to action in copy written material, asking the reader to take action. It may be that the product or service will better their life, protect their loved ones or make them healthier. The content certainly depends on the type of business or website, but copy writing is used to persuade the reader.

Copywriting is a skill which it behooves every internet marketer to develop; if you simply don’t have the time to devote learning to become a better copywriter, you’ll need to find a talented writer to work with to ensure that you’re saying what you want to say in a way which appeals to your target market.

For internet marketers, the importance of strong copywriting begins with their website before going any further, take a look over your site and try to step back and read your copy the way that a visitor might. Is it compelling? Does it get to the point? Does it effectively convey the benefits of using your product or service? Is it concise? Most importantly of all, could someone with absolutely no knowledge of what your business is about stumble onto your site and understand within a matter of seconds exactly what it is you’re selling and why they might want to do business with you? If not, it’s time to brush up on your copywriting skills and refine that website copy.

With your online copywriting you have to make it as easy as possible for people to understand what you’re asking of them, and for them to then take the appropriate action. It’s not as if you’re writing promotional material for a magazine and you have an order form included for anyone who picks it up.

The questions of whether your copy gets to the point, is concise and is easily understandable are all closely related. The copy you use on your website and in your advertising needs to immediately let the reader know what it is that you sell in as few words as possible. The man from Mars? test is applicable here.

Finally, always remember that when you’re copywriting for the web you have to keep your target audience in mind at all times. Different groups of people will react to things in different ways. A group of scientists handing out awards may be very interested in the mechanical and technological workings of your product. But consumers looking for a bargain on a service they need instead want to see clear benefits that they receive. So remember your audience and target your message to them accordingly.

Remember that you’ll never go wrong by keeping it short; while the marathon sales letter was very effective for Dale Carnegie, people simply don’t have the same kind of patience for long form copy in internet marketing. Keep it short and to the point, make it clear and outline the benefits of your product and make sure to get your reader’s attention immediately; once you’ve captured their interest, half the battle of making a sale has been won.

Creative Company Names Work

August 31st, 2009 by Todd Alan

They say that when starting a business, you need to think about how the people think. Put yourself in the clients shoes and think of a creative company name that will catch their attention. You need more than a great mind to do this, you need common sense and ingenuity.

A business must be named ingeniously keeping a balance between unique words and how the consumers can relate to it. The name has to be different, yet so attractive that people should be able to remember it. For getting such a name, one has to think like the crowd and needs a lot of common sense to know how the name can be different.

Words play a big role in making an impact and in creating an impression. As they say, first impressions are formed in the first three seconds upon meeting you. When they first hear about your business, you must then find ways to make them remember you. Of course, there are good and bad impressions. Obviously, the latter is out of the question. As strange and unique a name may sound, the most important thing is that the meaning behind it demands respect. It should give a hint about your capabilities as a business without having too generic a name.

Positivism in the business name may not fetch the business house the required results. Since similar words appear in various media, the same word looses its charm. The bottom line, they lose the punch. This in turn adversely affects the business house. This is a common mans perception and they cannot be blamed since they decide what they say. The words Quality and Professional are apt examples. Naming the business name Professional Tailoring House or Quality Advertising Services, for example would be a sheer waste. Truly then, you would be run of the mill. Your customers would expect a high quality of service from you, and the name should add the punch to prove it, and not simply state the mundane.

People must be able to identify the business and its uniqueness with its name, which will be the case only when common terms are avoided. You should take the efforts to make the name meaningful and original with a dab of creativity. A demanding, yet effective way of going about this is to do some research on the business you are about to start. One will come across many words, depending what kind of business it is. In such cases, hiring a professional to get the job done with finesse is a very sensible option. Professionals come across such challenges and deliver the performance that the layman may not.

Write Articles Fast – Make Money Online

August 30th, 2009 by Adela Thomas
by Adela Thomas

According to a recent survey, the average person spends over two and a half an hours in the car every single day. Other sources claim that number is more like 2 hours. Regardless, that’s a lot of unproductive time sitting around doing nothing. Rather then use that time to stress out at the bad driver in front of you and giving him the power to ruin your day, take your power back, and find something productive to do… like write articles!

No, I’m not advising you get a pen and a paper and start writing. Doing so, or having a laptop while you drive that would be irresponsible. What I am advising is that you find yourself a clear high quality audio recorder that you can set up hands free so you can keep your hands on the wheel. Then, you are able to record yourself speaking out the articles. The way this will work is that you will then take your recording home with you, and then you will play it back to your computer. If you have a software program that converts audio to text and it is installed, you can use it to record your voice. In this case, you will actually speak aloud to the recording, but once you run the software you will not be speaking, but instead just playing back your recording.

Recording your voice in the car is a great way to be very productive. Maybe you’re still stuck in your job making $10 an hour. But in reality if you’re going to and from work, that’s another couple of hours driving that you’re not getting paid for, and maybe half an hour at lunch. What if you were going to take that time and record articles? If you are good, you can probably easily speak out at least 3 articles, if not more like 6 in an hour, maybe more. The key is to not rush through it, so your voice recognition software can pick it up.

You also will want to create a separate profile for your recordings of yourself, and for you directly, as the sound quality will not be the same. It’s best to find a recording device with a pause button in case your software screws up, and a rewind button in case you need to replay something. But even if it misses something, you can go back and correct it later…

Now to increase productivity, you can play your audio in one room, while you type on a computer or laptop in the other room. Now if you can write 4 articles an hour for 2.5 hours, that’s 10 extra articles a day. At $3 per article, that’s an extra $30 a day, or $900 a month.
