Article Marketing: Recession Proof Marketing That Works

June 30th, 2009 by Lisa Angelettie
by Lisa Angelettie

Today’s job market is well literally — a mess! I advise everyone to have another source of income — and an online business is just the ticket for a lot of people. There is little you need to initially invest and you can stand to make a lot of money if you know what you are doing. Especially if you spend as little as possible on your marketing.

Here are some ideas for recession proof marketing. Even if you have just started your business or you are seasoned pro — everyone wants to spend less money on their marketing and still see tangible results.

1. Start Writing Articles

The easiest, proven, zero cost yet all-time effective online marketing strategy out there is article marketing. Talk to any successful online entrepreneur and they will tell you the same. Get started by writing one article every other week.

2. Start A Blog

Search engines like Google love blog articles! Why? Well they attract more natural and organic traffic to your site then any other content method. I suggest building a Wordpress blog because of the easy-to-use interface and large community of Wordpress bloggers.

3. Begin Building Relationships

I really like building new relationships at internet conferences and workshops –but they cost a ton! What happened to the old days when these things were free and they just sold you at the back of the room :-) Well, that’s why now I have started using social marketing as the backbone for building relationships with people who I want to get to know and whose work I admire. I use Twitter and Facebook a lot. These seem to attract the most serious interaction. I also simply contact people via email. Sometimes the old school ways – work the best.

4. Don’t Buy Any Unnecessary Information

While I highly recommend to all of my clients that they invest in continual education, I also readily admit that it should only be information that you can afford at the time. I have invested thousands in information products, coaching programs, etc. but I also have done it during times when I could afford to do so. When I couldn’t – I didn’t. The same goes for your marketing. There are dozens of strategies you could try implementing, but many cost money (such as pay per click ads). Start with with the simplest strategies first that cost little to no money. My first recommendation is article marketing of course:-)

5. Abandon Pricey Marketing Tactics

If you are already in a few coaching programs. membership sites, or are running Google ads etc. – you may want to abandon all the tactics that are not working for you. Or that you haven’t gotten to yet. Or that are just out of your budget right now. It’s not necessary when there are cost-free solutions out there that may not work overnight — but absolutely will work for your business.

Writing Great Term Papers the Easy Way

June 30th, 2009 by J.M. Patin
by J.M. Patin

Whether they are enrolled in a traditional or an online college, no student can earn a degree without writing dozens of term papers and essays. But, if they will take a few tips, writing those papers can be far easier.

Generally, students have a wide choice of topics when they are asked to write a paper. By choosing a topic of interest to themselves and the professor who assigned the paper, it is likely to be better researched, better written, and worthy of a high grade.

Next, make some decisions about what you want to say about your chosen topic. That will help you shape your ideas and select the research materials which will be most helpful to you.

Next, put together a comprehensive outline. The outline needs to be a roadmap for the beginning, the middle, and the end of your paper. Like the paper itself, your outline may need frequent revisions as you move forward.

The actual writing of the paper is relatively easy if the outline is well conceived. The “trick” is to make your papers easy to read by selecting interesting content, writing clearly, and making good transitions.

Whatever you do, don’t ignore this tip. Back up and save your outlines and your papers. Not only could you or your professors lose a paper, but you could be asked to defend yourself against a plagiarism charge or revise a paper after turning it in.

By all means read your paper critically as you write it and after it has been completed. But, bear in mind that we are seldom good critics of our own efforts. Therefore, ask at least one or two people with solid writing skills to read and critique your papers. You’ll be amazed at how much help that can be.

Lots of students live in fear of major papers. But, by adhering to the tips above, you can virtually ensure yourself a good grade whenever you are given a major writing assignment.

Build Your Own Information Publishing Empire With Articles!

June 30th, 2009 by Lisa Angelettie
by Lisa Angelettie

Back in the day, aspiring authors hoped to have a book published, get a big advance, and become a best selling author. But that’s old school!

Now you can build your own publishing empire without the help of the “big boy” publishing houses because the birth of the internet and digital printing has now dramatically changed the playing field. In fact, even non-writers are getting in on the action!

If you know information and can write simple articles that would be valuable to another person, then you have the potential to grow your own information-based publishing business quickly, and I’m going to explain how step-by-step.

I’ve designed this article info-publishing product pyramid based on cost to the client. For example, the first product is free for the client, but the cost of each product increases as you continue – making the most expensive product the weekend workshop. As your customers follow along the pyramid, you grow your empire, and best of all make more money. All originating from articles.

Product 1 – Write a newsletter

This is a complimentary weekly or monthly information newsletter that delivers quick tips and information on your topic. It’s important to do a good job with this because people will probably make a decision on whether or not to buy from you based on the quality of the information that you provide.

Product 2 – Write a book

It may surprise you that a print book lies this early in the publishing outline, but the truth is that most people aren’t making fortunes writing books. Sure — maybe the Twilight and Harry Potter authors are, but they are exceptions. Traditional books should be used more as marketing tools, especially for folks like us who are in the information business. Think of it as a high-class calling card which adds more credibility to you and your business.

Product 3 – Write an ebook or ecourse

Once you have several articles (at least 5-10) based around one particular topic, you can create an ebook or course that you can easily charge way more for than a traditional book. Think about the last infoproduct you bought? Did you pay for it then a supermarket paperback? The answer is probably – absolutely yes! People will pay more for specialized information. That’s what an ebook or ecourse can do.

Product 4 – Home Study Program

Take some of your articles, ebook content, audios and/or videos and compile them together in an easy-to-understand system. If your readers have bought your last two products, they are probably very interested in learning more from you and working with you. Great thing – is that you build this entire program using content that you may already have plus a few things you may want to add or that others in your field have contributed.

Product 5 – Membership Program

All memberships sites or programs are based around information and content. You just are delivering it in spoon-fed doses and holding members’ hands as they move through the program. It’s a great way to learn and a great way to build a community of “fans” who are all interested in learning all that you know about your field.

Product 6 – The Weekend Workshop

Who doesn’t love live events? You get to hear and absorb massive amounts of information in a live setting where you can ask questions and understand the material. This is what many of your devoted customers and clients will want from you. More one on one connection with you. Again – all you are doing is taking your existing content and delivering it a more hands-on way. One that you can charge a great deal of money for.

*Optional Service – Coaching

Based on content you already have, you can design a curriculum based coaching program teaching clients how to do what you do or be what you are. These are usually very specialized programs with a lot of access to you personally as the coach, so you can charge premium prices for them.

As a back-end product, you have the option of selling a hard copy of that curriculum once you no longer provide coaching around that particular topic in your marketplace.

Finally while you may not be able to create and deliver all of these product ideas in 90 days (probably depending on how much content you already have written), you can absolutely design your publishing outline based on how many articles you can commit to writing in the next few months.

**Remember that all of these products can be created from articles that you have already written and even published – cool huh!

Without A Good Subject, You Have No Article: How To Choose A Good Topic

June 30th, 2009 by Jeanene Fisher
by Jarlene Fisher

Want to write an article? What’s the most important part of this article? You guessed it, the subject. This often stumps writers. In choosing your topic you need to think about all of the things about which you have some knowledge. In fact, write them down. Then, choose the one or ones for which you have a great Passion.

When you write about your Passions and write WITH Passion, you will find your writing just flows out of you. This enthusiasm for your topic will be recognized by your reader and they will want to keep reading.

Why is this important? First of all, editors like enthusiasm in writing. Secondly, since you will know a lot about your topic, you will save a lot of research time. And thirdly, your writing will not be a task, but a joy to do.

If your interest area is narrow or limited, find a way to expand into similar topics. Perhaps chemistry is your Passion. This can be related to health, also. But instead of choosing just “health” topics, get specific. Perhaps you could write about one type of sports injury and how it can be treated. Or if your chemistry takes you over to nutrition, you could choose specific areas of nutrition, such as nutrition for teenagers. Soon you will find yourself able to submit many articles to lots of different magazines, e-zines and websites. You will probably find that with a little research, you can write about these topics with much Passion and enthusiasm.

If you decide to become a freelance writer, then the topic is usually your choice. If, however, you are asked to write about some topic of which you have little or no knowledge, you will need to do the research. Finding information quickly and bringing it all together to write the article can be done by a skilled researcher.

Another option for writing about topics with which you are unfamiliar is to outsource it. There are many businesses on the web that outsource this and other services. Do be careful, and make sure the writer you hire does original work, does not plagiarize from the internet, and has good spelling and grammar skills. You don’t want your reputation to suffer.

If you are publishing on the internet, you will find there is seldom an editor available to accept or reject your article. The burden of correct facts and good solid information then falls to you. Keep your article fresh. Make sure the content is correct. And add new information. These things will help develop your good reputation.

So we all know that dogs need water, food, and exercise. Don’t write about these things that “everyone knows.” Instead, give new information. For example, you might write about how the droopy eared dog needs to have his ears checked for ticks and other diseases that might develop. Don’t waste your reader’s time. If you don’t have any new information to offer, they won’t be back. Challenge them with new facts or even new ideas to ponder.

So choose a topic about which you have a lot of passion, provide new and interesting facts or ideas for your reader, write with enthusiasm, and before you know it you will be submitting lots of really good articles.

Getting into Harvard: Doing Science Research at Your Local College

June 30th, 2009 by John Chang
by John Chang

Of course, you know that taking classes at your local college will help you when it comes time to apply for college. Did you know that there is another great opportunity to be had at your local university?

Your local four-year university (as opposed to a community college) can provide you with an excellent boost to your college applications.

I am particularly addressing students who are focused on science, math, and academics; however, all students should work towards being well-rounded to achieve success with college admissions.

University professors are always doing research projects. They use post-doctoral students, undergraduates, and graduate students to help them. They are always on the lookout for free help!

Click here for more on high school summer clubs.

Contact the professors at your local university. It will be easier to do that if you are already enrolled in some classes there. However, it is also possible to simply e mail them. If your parents have contacts at the school, you can ask them to help you make connections.

You could offer to do a research project in exchange for high school credit or even for free.

This sort of project really looks good on your applications to colleges. If your research leads to a paper or presentation, this is even more true. This kind of project can be entered in a Science Fair, and of course, it is a tremendous plus on your application to Harvard.

It impresses college admissions offices tremendously to see this kind of hard work and commitment documented on your application.

Additionally, doing this sort of project will help you to define your own interests. When you apply to an Ivy League school, this kind of accomplishment will really help you. Don’t hesitate. Get started making connections with some professors right away. Ask your parents and your teachers to help you make connections so you can get the most from this opportunity.

How To Begin Your Own Photo Blog

June 30th, 2009 by Laural Kay
by Laura Kay

Digital cameras are everywhere you look these days! It seems like just about everyone has a digital camera these days that can take photos of just about anything in a matter of moments. Using digital photos instead of the traditional film and paper print photos is cheap, there is no used paper to end up in landfills and they take up virtually no physical space at all!

Whether you are a pro photographer or an amateur photography novice you’ll still like the convenience of digital photography. And what is better than just snapping lots of digital pictures is the easy way you can share them with others. There are lots of different ways to share your photos, from digital picture frames to printing them out to storing them on your cell phone.

One of the newest ways to display your photos to others is by publishing a photography blog. A “web log” or blog is a website that allows an photographer to publish instant updates onto World Wide Web about just about any topic imaginable. A photo blog can include the digital photographs you took on any specific day or trip. You can add comments about your photographs and you can inform people about why you snapped the photos and what was happening when you took them.

To begin a photography blog you just need to find some free blogging software and pick a blog name. Most blogging websites are fairly simple to get started with. When you are happy with a post you “publish” it and everyone on the planet can instantly view it! You just type your ideas out in a post, insert your digital photos from your camera and the blogging software pretty much does the rest.

Getting commends from views to your web log is part of the excitement of posting your photos online. With a photography blog you can not only share your photos with others but you can also allow visitors to write comments on your posts. If you allow comments on your images then you can also discover what other people like and don’t like about your images.

You can post a bunch of photos of a trip to Florida one day and then put up photos of some flowers in your front yard the next day. Remember not to worry about always writing a article that’s perfect. It’s your photo blog and you can post pictures of whatever you want. Just try to have fun with the ability to spread your electronic images so easily with your own blog!

Homeschooling and the Family

June 30th, 2009 by Colin Jones
by Colin Jones

According to the National Center For Education Statistics, roughly 1.1 million children underwent home schooling in 2005 alone. That’s a lot of children. Once upon a time, homeschooling used to be an extreme statement – something like a declaration of independence.

It was the conservative Christians who advocated homeschooling in the ’80s and legalized it in every State. But the typical homeschooler of today is not religiously motivated.

Later surveys indicate that parents are quite fed up with the public school system where a lot of the learning is superficial and compulsory. They are also concerned about the negative environment in school, which ranges from drugs and abuse to negative peer pressure.

Because of this, we have a surprising mix of people who make up the homeschooling world of today. They cut across all religious creeds and all regional borders. Their main aim is providing meaningful and productive education through a method that strengthens the bond between the various members of the family.

All these families have one main thing in common – a long enduring commitment to the sanctity of childhood. The children in these families are accorded a primary position. Many believe, and, I think, rightly so, that home schooling allows parents to bring up their kids in a more natural and nurturing environment.

Public schools can make a child nervous, diffident and downright mean. Children who get their education at home are protected from these damaging, negative influences until they reach an age where they can deal with them.

Home-schooling draws the whole family into the quasi religious job of teaching. Everyone has a role to play. The parents together form a bond with the children. Any experience can be turned into an educational experience. Both the parents are aware of exactly what is going into their child’s head.

Parents also have a greater control over the kind of religious and moral values that the child is taught. Even watching a film together can become a learning experience. Visits to the libraries, zoos, museums and other places become educational experiences as well as recreational ones.

A home-schooling family is primarily dependent on the income of one earning member. That means that often outgoings have to be curtailed and proper planning of expenditure is a must. This helps to bring the family members together and everybody becomes involved in the process of not spending money.

Just having a parent at home to look after, to nurture and to care for the children brings with it a lot of love and caring. Even the husband chips in and there just is no room for boredom.

Yes OK, problems still do sometimes crop up, and there will be many misgivings in your mind, but when you know that your kids can always count on you, and your kids know it too, then homeschooling becomes a richly rewarding experience.
